Purpose

The principal aim of the Ship Research Institute International Symposium on "Deep Sea Sequestration of CO2" is to foster advanced discussion and planning on the science and technology of deep-sea CO2 disposal, and to explore the consequences of disposal for the marine environment.

The direct disposal of fossil fuel CO2 in the deep sea is widely recognized as one of the most promising technologies for the mitigation of global warming and related climate change, since it takes direct advantage of the long residence time and enormous buffer capacity of the oceans.

The Ship Research Institute, Ministry of Transport has been engaged in research on CO2 sequestration for ten years, and is now actively proceeding with research and development on CO2 sequestration in deep ocean basins in collaboration with both domestic and foreign researchers.

The symposium featured state of the art contributions, novel results, and discussion by leading national and international scientists in the field.
