About EAGEAG conducts research on environmental assessment technology applying the life cycle assessment (LCA) methods. EAG also carries out research into improvement of reliability of marine engines and rationalization of statutory inspection.
Study on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Research on improvement of reliability of marine engines and rationalization of statutory inspectionThe statutory ship inspection system was amended with the aim of a realization of more rationality and more effectiveness, making full use of maintenance result information of ship owners' own will and so forth. The new system started July 1997. The most important things to carry out the aim of realization of more rational and more effective statutory inspection of marine engines are to acquire reliability data of parts of engines in actual operation at sea and to try to find the cause of engine trouble. In this research following activities are now carried out. Reliability data of engine parts are acquired by collecting trouble information through statutory inspection of marine engines. The data are going to be analyzed. At the same time experimental investigations on the combustion process of marine engines are made. Onboard investigations as to the cause of engine trouble are made too. With all these activities basic information is going to be provided for a realization of more rational and more effective statutory inspection. |
