At-sea experiment of a small planing boat
(Gallery, Marine Dynamics Research Group)

Manoeuvring motion of a planing boat was investigated by measuring two points on centerline of the boat three dimensionally with high precision and fast sampling rate using RTK-GPS at actual seas.

Planing boat
A six-meter-long planing boat M-2 built by NMRI on consignment of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was applied to the experiment. Two RTK-GPS antennas were placed at bow and just below a mast lamp. Radio link antenna to base station was in front of cockpit. Fiber optical gyro and accelerometer were also installed inside cabin.

RTK-GPS base station
Base station was located on quay beside the experimental site. RTK-GPS antenna is on a tripod stand and radio link antenna on a small white box is at right hand side.

Experimental site
The experimental site was off the coast of Shinkiba, Tokyo bay. Turning test, zig-zag test and so on were carried out.
