ISO/TC67/SC7
Expert Committee on Materials and Equipment for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries/Marine Structure Subcommittee

      This conference was held at the NMRI Auditorium over the 2-day period of February 10-11 (Tuesday and Wednesday), 2004. ISO/TC67/SC7 is responsible for international standardization of requirements and design criteria in the field of offshore structures used in extraction, production, and storage of petroleum and natural gas, including procedures for assessment of the site specific application of mobile offshore units (MOUS). The NMRI and Japan Maritime Standards Association served as joint hosts of the conference. Director Dr. Ohmatsu of the NMRI’s Ocean and Ice Engineering Department and Group Leader Dr. Kato of the Ocean Space Utilization Group of the same department participated as representatives from the Japanese side.

      The conference included a progress report and policy explanation on standardization work, budget report, report on movements/coordination with other related ISO committees, the IMO, and CEN, and discussion of future policies for SC7.

      During the conference, participants toured the NMRI’s Deep Sea Basin, and foreign guests posed numerous interesting questions.
