| FY2007 (The 7th) Research Presentation Meeting Was Held |
| On June 4 (Mon.) and 5 (Tue.), NMRI held the 7th Research Presentation
Meeting at its headquarters in Mitaka. Entitled “We support businesses
to resolve their issues,” the event featured a lecture meeting introducing
the endeavors of NMRI to meet the needs of its customers and the achievements
of researches flourished out of the seeds of NMRI, a poster session as
an interactive exhibition program aiming to make dialogues with visitors,
and an exhibition of works from industrial, academic and public sector
research institutes. In addition, it had a technical consultation corner
and exposed some NMRI’s research facilities such as the Bridge Simulator
for Navigational Risk Research. The event attracted such a great interest of visitors for its lecture program which we composed from the viewpoint of the customers, exhibits from the 23 external organizations and the exposure of the cutting-edge Bridge Simulator for Navigational Risk Research that it received over 370 cumulative visitors, representing 60 persons increase over the last year, who eagerly listened to the lectures and vigorously exchanged opinions. Taking this opportunity, we would like to thank the 23 organizations which exhibited their paneled posters, literatures, models, video programs and other works, once again. 1. Lecture Meeting Program After the keynote lecture, the “Medium- and long-term strategies for developing maritime and oceanic technologies,” was first delivered by President Inoue of NMRI, the Lecture Meeting Program was conducted in two sections in large: “Response to needs” (on the first day) and “Flourishing of seeds” (on the second day). The “Response to needs” section gave an easy-to-understand explication of how NMRI is intend to resolve in its researches the issues of energy and labor saving and, safety and environment which are currently the issues of the greatest concern in the maritime, shipbuilding and similar industries and at the same time introduced the present status of the related research and development activities. The “Flourishing of seeds” section introduced the recent topical achievements in the research areas of the fluid engineering, risk analysis, logistics, production technology, ocean engineering and structure respectively. |

2. Exhibition Program The Exhibition Program comprised a poster session by NMRI, exhibition by industrial, academic and public sector research institutes, technical consultation corner, and exposure of the facilities. (1) Poster session The space for the session was divided into five sections for the research areas of "navigation systems"," environment and energy", "structure, materials and Osaka branch", "ocean engineering", and "fluids engineering and logistics", and presentations were given with 41 posters in total. Efforts were paid for each poster attended by an elucidator at all times to make interactive exchange of opinions with visitors. |
