Abstract

The Navigation and System Engineering Department is engaged in research for safety of navigation. Various research for prevention of maritime accidents and for mitigation of consequential damages are carried out in our department.

To improve safety, we are conducting the research for development of probabilistic risk assessment systems for ships, development and evaluation of navigation support systems, and establishment of measures for safe carriage of radioactive materials. For the enhancement of maritime security, we are conducting research on vulnerability assessment and measures for suppression of unlawful acts against the safety of maritime navigation.

To mitigate casualties in accidents, we are conducting the research for evacuation in case of fire, search and rescue systems and environmental monitoring technology.

The results of these research are utilized for development of national and international regulations and standards and we contribute to improvement of maritime safety and enhancement of maritime security.
