1.Topics of The Research Group

This drag reduction project was started at April 1995.

Following research projects are related to the drag reduction project.

  1. Reduction of hydrodynamic drag of ships using CFD (1995-2000, Ship Research Institute)
  2. Optimum design method of hydrodynamic shape for ship hulls by CFD [SR229] (1995-1999, Joint project of Ship Research Institute, Shipbuilding research association of Japan, shipbuilding makers, computer software makers and univercities)
  3. Reduction of frictional drag of ships [SR239] (1998-2002, Joint project of Ship Research Institute, Shipbuilding research association of Japan, shipbuilding makers, marine paint makers and univercities)
Macro-approach of a drag reduction is researching to deveropment of hydrodynamic shape optimization system for ship hulls by CFD.
Micro-approach of a drag reduction is researching to the mechanism of turbulent flow and drag in a boundary layer around a ship hull. The drag reduction devices are microbubbles (pdf file 289KB) and LEBU.
