 Ship Structural Standards Research Group

Mission

Among the standards of the main ship societies for the structural strength of ships, the standards for bulk carriers and oil tankers were unified in 2005. IMO is now developing international standards for new ship construction based on a new consept called GBS (goal-based standards). This is major turnning point on the standards on ship strucuture. This group is actively leading movements in connetion with international standards of this type through the development of an estimation method of loads on large container ships and technologoes for structural reliability assessment.
