Abstract
Aiming at design/construction of safe and economical ships, this department conducts research on loads on the hull and structural systems for withstanding such loads, the corrosion properties and fatigue strength of materials, and various structural systems using steel, light alloys, and FRP, etc. employing large-scale structural testing facilities, fatigue testing facilities, water-basin facilities, etc.
It also provides various types of technical support for strength assessments and functional/performance assessments of structural materials used in ships and ship engines, processing and joining techniques for those materials, and nondestructive testing.
