Q&A
Do we
need to obtain special techniques for simulation?
No, you don't.
Most of the techniques, assumptions and approximations used
in the simulation are well
established and commonly used by various maritime research
institutes and industries
worldwide. There is no need to obtain new techniques.
Is there a necessity of considering decrease of ship
speed if the ship has
an extra engine power?
Yes, there is.
The ship decreases the speed in actual seas whether the ship
has an extra engine power
or not. In addition, the ship speed in the representative
sea condition differently decreases
even if the required power in a calm sea condition is the
same. (ref. Fig1) Therefore the
decrease of ship speed in actual seas should be considered.

Do we need to use the specific simulation program to
estimate decrease
of ship speed?
No, you don't.
You can use any simulation programs as far as it follows the
simulation guidelines to be
developed by IMO.
