Description:

The KCS was conceived to provide data for both explication of flow physics and CFD validation for a modern container ship with bulb bow and stern (i.e., ca. 1997).  The conditions include bare hull and fixed model.  No full-scale ship exists.

EFD data was collected at two sites.

  1. Korea Research Institute for Ships and Ocean Engineering performed towing-tank experiments to obtain resistance and wave field.  More information concerning the KCS and measurements can be found on the KRISO web site.
  2. Ship Research Institute of Japan performed towing-tank experiments to obtain hull surface pressure and velocity field downstream of propeller plane for both with and without propeller.  More information concerning these measurements can be found on the SRI web site.
