Types of Stirling Engines

Stirling engines are classified to four types with viewpoint of working space. The alpha-type has two power pistons. The beta-type has a displacer and a power pisuton with the same cylinder. The gamma-type has a displacer and a power piston with indipendent cylinders. And the double-acting type has for power pistons and uses both the top and bottom sides of the pistons. Also the alpha-type is colled the two-piston type. The beta- and gamma-type are called the displacer type.

Technical Terms
Power Piston This piston changes the volume between the working space and atmosphere. The engine works by this piston.
Displacer The displacer moves the working gas from hot spaceto cold space, and does not change the volume in the engine.
