Dr. Matsuo, Chief researcher for Structural and Infrastructure Technologies, received the Inspiring Visionary Award from HANSA, a maritime magazine in Germany, at the HIPER (High Performance Marine Vehicles) conference held in South Africa from Sept. 11 to 13, 2017.

HIPER is an international conference held regularly every two years. This year’s theme was "Technologies for the Ship of the Future." At this conference, he gave a presentation concerning promising technologies in maritime industry over the next 30 years, based on the investigation conducted with the Japan Ship Technology Research Association (JSTRA) in 2014. He also discussed future scenarios for ships after these technologies are put into practical use. An abstract of his presentation will be posted in the next issue of HANSA.
