RESULT OF CALCULATION OF INCREASED RESISTANCE IN WAVES
Using hybrid calculations, added resistance in regular waves and added resistance in short crested irregular waves were calculated. The results are shown below.
The calculations were conducted for a container ship (300m), a car carrier (190m), and a bulk carrier (217m).
A container ship with a 300 m ship length
A car carrier with a 190 m ship length
A bulk carrier with a 217 m ship length
(1) Added resistance in regular waves
The followings are the results of calculations of added resistance in regular waves conducted for a container ship with a 300m length. It is shown that the agreement with the experimental data is good, regardless of the wavelength-to-ship length ratio, speed, or wave direction.

(2)Added resistance in short crested irregular waves
The Added resistance in short crested irregular waves can be calculated from the wave height and wave spectrum. The results of calculations for a 300-meter-long container ship, a 190-meter-long car carrier, and a 217-meter-long bulk carrier are shown below.
It can be seen that the wave period at which the response peaks is related to the ship size.
