Marine environmental protection is a globally important issue, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is actively deliberating requirements in its Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR). Meanwhile, ISO/TC 8 is also actively developing standards that contribute to marine pollution prevention and response taking into account the discussions in IMO/MEPC and PPR.
This workshop will focus on matters related to biodiversity conservation in the marine environment and review the relevant IMO organs. The topics related to standards development primarily in ISO/TC 8/SC 2 are explained by leader with her experience. Key issues in the standards development for in-water cleaning will also be discussed, along with an introduction to bioassay methods for screening anti-fouling paints.
We hope this workshop provides valuable insights, helping ISO/TC 8 members and engineers involved in ISO development deepen their understanding of these issues and the standards development process, while encouraging more active participation in ISO activities.
